Ambience Data

"Being in a social venture is different because it lets you know that what you're doing is helping everyone around you; it's not always just about the money, it's also about helping others."

When Nisha’s son was diagnosed with allergies, Nisha’s subsequent research uncovered just how big an impact air quality has on our health. Nisha learned that in 2012, nearly four million deaths were linked to air pollution. Population growth and industrial growth correspond with more people suffering from upper respiratory conditions such as asthma. In fact, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has declared nearly $2 trillion to combat air pollution. But cost effective methods to measure and monitor air pollution are needed. And unlike food and beverages, our air doesn’t come with a list of ingredients.
Combining her experience as an aerospace engineer, environmentalist and as a mother, Nisha founded Ambience Data. Ambience Data is an air quality monitoring company that focuses on providing accurate, real-time data through robust hardware sensors and proprietary software. What can be measured can be managed. Thus, information and analytics such as pollen counts through to pollutants and particulate matter are simultaneously shown online through the website or app. By accessing Ambience’s data sets and knowing air quality information in their mapped area, municipal governments, research organizations, businesses and workplaces through to school playgrounds and concerned citizens can get much needed information to plan policies or simply plan an activity.
For Nisha, social innovation means that the smallest difference made by one person is the start of making a difference for millions.
